On the afternoon of Friday, November 24th, 2017 the Hempstead Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at the intersection of Baldwin Road and Marvin Avenue. When firefighters arrived on scene they were met with heavy smoke pushing from 135 Marvin Avenue – a vacant, two and a half story private dwelling [and the previous site of a September 2015 working fire]. The working fire was transmitted with the main body of fire was located on the second floor of the home. West Hempstead was designated the FAST and was put to work as an additional truck company during the operation. Uniondale, originally called to standby, was redirected to the scene as the new FAST. Hempstead Engine One and Truck One were the first one and one to arrive on scene. Two hand lines were stretched with at least one of them going into operation. The cause of the fire is under investigation and there was one injury on the scene that was considered non-life threatening. Additional mutual aid was provided by Lakeview, South Hempstead, and Rockville Centre. All fire department units were under the command of Hempstead Chief of Department Sandas .
