On Tuesday, May 19th, 2020 the Westbury Fire Department along with mutual aid companies operated on scene of a working fire inside the Meadowbrook Pointe Condominium Complex. Original reports stated that there was a vehicle on fire in an underground parking area; however, the fire was in and around the electric meter bank of one the complex’s many buildings. Westbury Chief of Department Kenny Gass [among the first to arrive on scene] transmitted the working fire which brought various mutual aid units to the scene and to standby. Mineola was designated the FAST and responded to the scene with Heavy Rescue 1610. Also, on scene was Garden City Ladder 144 [additional truck], Garden City Park Ladder 151 [ventilation unit] and Carle Place Engine 917 [additional engine]. Two hand lines were stretched and operated which led to the fire being quickly knocked down and extension kept to a minimum. During the operation, one occupant was removed and transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation. A small, crated dog was also safely removed. Primary and secondary searches throughout the building were negative. Hempstead and Hicksville were among the departments standing by for Westbury. The cause of the fire is under investigation and the scene was placed under control within forty-five minutes. All fire department units were under the command of Westbury Chief of Department Kenny Gass .
