Sunrise Avenue [12-10-18]

In the early morning hours of Monday, December 10th, 2018 the Bellmore Fire Department was called to a house fire on Sunrise Avenue off Merrick Road. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with heavy fire throughout a two and a half story private dwelling with exposure problems. A signal ten [working fire] was transmitted and mutual aid notified. North Bellmore was designated the FAST for the operation and responded with Ladder 658 [Wantagh and Merrick were among the other departments called for mutual aid]. Firefighters quickly put the master stream of Bellmore Ladder 606 into operation along with multiple hand lines. The scene was placed under control approximately one hour into the operation. An occupant of the home [burns] and one firefighter [finger laceration] were transported from the scene to area hospitals. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Bellmore First Assistant Chief Schmalenberger [600-01].
