Firefighters operated on the scene of a working house fire at 34 Jerusalem Avenue in Hempstead on the night of Monday, November 6th, 2017. The house, which was vacant at the time the fire broke out, had fire on both the first and second floors. West Hempstead was designated the FAST but was put to work as an additional truck company during the operation. Uniondale, who was standing by, was redirected to the scene and became the new FAST. Mutual aid was also called from South Hempstead, Roosevelt, Rockville Centre, and Lakeview among others. At least two hand lines were stretched and put into operation to put out the fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. All fire department units were under the command of Hempstead Chief of Department Sandas .
