In the early morning hours of Thursday, June 7th, 2018 Westbury firefighters operated on the scene of a large fire in a scrap yard in the dead end of Hopper Street off Main Street. A working fire was transmitted due to the large volume of fire and many hazards present – propane included. Within minutes Westbury Ladder 962 was up and in operation with hand lines also being used. Ladder 962 was soon joined by Hicksville Ladder 931 and together the two were able to darken down a majority of the fire. Additional mutual aid was called from Jericho, East Meadow, Carle Place, Garden City, and Mineola among others. All fire department units were under the command of Westbury Chief of Department Bartunek .
