Grand Avenue [3-4-19]

Late on the afternoon of Monday, March 4th, 2019 the Baldwin Fire Department was dispatched to smoke in the building in the 1900 block of Grand Avenue off Lorenz Avenue. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with smoke showing from a one-story office building. Upon investigating firefighters located a closet fire beginning to extend into the hallway. This discovery led to the transmission of a signal ten [working fire]. Baldwin Engine 203 was the first engine company to arrive on scene and positioned at the rear of the building [which command designated the number one side]. Two hand lines were stretched with at least one line put into operation. Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire and kept extension to a minimum. Among the departments called for mutual aid were Freeport, Rockville Centre, and Oceanside. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Baldwin Chief of Department Ortiz [205].
