On the morning of September 23rd, 2018, the officers and members of Oceanside Terrace Hose Company No. 3 held a memorial service and breakfast to honor the memory of Chief Thomas Bettes who passed away fifteen years ago in 2003. Bettes, who was a member of Terrace Hose Company No. 3, passed away unexpectedly while in office. There was a large turnout from the department, as well as family and friends, to mark the fifteenth anniversary of Thomas Bettes’ passing. His memory has been preserved at the Columbus Avenue firehouse with a memorial display case inside the building and a recently redone memorial garden on the outside of the firehouse. The Sunday morning ceremony was held alongside the memorial garden.
